Google Panda has become part of Google's Core Algorithm At the start of 2016

At the start of 2016, Google resolved to make changes with a new core update – one that initially surprised and confused some SEO professionals.

The initial reaction was confusion because the changes were not clear about what was expected or there was no context why some changes were made. However, since its release, the core ranking algorithm update has now been analyzed by a number of experts.

What’s Changed and What’s the Same?
The consensus was that changes revolved around specific brand terms related to news sites and other brand queries. While there was expectation that a Google Penguin update was coming in mid 2016, it didn’t happen with this current round of changes.

Google Panda has become part of Google’s core algorithm, which will include more regular updates to Panda. However, in doing so, no new Panda scores have been set so those previously adversely impacted by this algorithm will not get any relief. Google Panda also does not run in real-time.

What Does it Mean Anyway?
Consider this one of the many quality updates that Google typically makes periodically in relation to decisive content quality. The impact of this recent update is believed to impact more upon search results and visibility, versus doing anything to traffic. For example, those that lost rankings were those that most notably were relying on older content pieces while those with fresher content moved up the rankings.

Searchmetrics noted that there were considerable changes in terms of visibility among the top 100 websites for both desktop and mobile SERPs that it tracks with nearly 50% of them changing among those considered the winners and losers from before the Google update. The changes were noted among domestic websites but have not yet been noted among the international markets, indicating that Google has yet to roll it out around the world.
